As we look at the latest home design trends, bright, bold colors are being prioritized. The “sad beige” and “millennial gray” decorating styles are no longer what most people want in their homes. Once I started adding more colorful decorations and paint colors to my home, I really did feel like I was in a better mood. I’ll be honest, it was a little bit challenging to think of how different colors work together instead of choosing decor in different shades of beige. But once I saw how much more alive my home felt, I wanted more!

Houseplants are a must!
The easiest way to add color to your home is with houseplants. Plants add vibrancy and life to an otherwise dull area. Just find a spot with enough light for the plant you want, and voilà, you’ll have a nice pop of color.
If you’re intimidated by houseplants, that’s okay! Head to a local nursery and ask the employees for suggestions for beginner-friendly house plants. They can help you find the right house plant for your space, considering factors like light, humidity, and your lifestyle. I find that the people who work at plant stores are usually the nicest, most helpful people ever and will point you in the right direction.
Head to the garden for a fresh bouquet
If you’re not ready to commit to houseplants, consider brightening up your space with fresh blooms. Arranging a bouquet full of beautiful, colorful, fresh-cut flowers is a delightful way to add color to your home. And if you’re lucky enough to have a blooming garden, why not bring some of that natural beauty indoors? After all, what could be better than free, nature-inspired home decor?
Adding artwork will add color to your home
Art is so important in giving your space character and is another way to add color to your home. Art can serve as a stand-out focal point that influences the rest of your home decor, or it can be more subtle and blend into its surroundings.
The best part about artwork is that there is so much to choose from. You can find unique and affordable pieces like prints, posters, or even digital downloads.
If you’re looking for a more permanent piece, something that you will have displayed in your home and maybe even pass down to your kids, visit local art festivals, galleries, or craft fairs where local artists sell their work. Some of my favorite pieces of art were picked up while traveling and act as a reminder of a great trip and also bring life to my home.
Don’t forget to dress up the floors
Whether you have carpet, hardwood, or tile, sometimes the floors need a little bit more dressing up. Flooring tends to be an area in the home that just blends in, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Placing accent rugs throughout your home is an excellent way to add color to your home while also defining spaces which makes home design easier.
Rugs come in all sizes, colors, and price points so finding the perfect rug for your space should not be an issue. If you have kids or pets, you’ll want to make sure to purchase a rug that is durable and washable.
Switch out your backsplash
If you’re willing to take on a more challenging project, head to the kitchen! It’s time to say goodbye to the white subway-tiled backsplash and bring in some color. A colorful and unique backsplash will completely transform the space.
Beautiful glass mosaic or sparkly Zelige tiles will instantly elevate your kitchen and bring it back to life. I added these blue mosaic tiles to my old kitchen and found it much easier than it looks. Depending on the size of your kitchen, you can easily complete it in a weekend.
