I’m not going to lie — I think it’s strange that there are new Christmas decorating trends each year, but here we are. Personally, I like the nostalgia of Christmas and love bringing out the same decor year after year. I might add a couple of things here and there, but I definitely don’t buy all new everything each year.
But, for those of you who do like to switch it up each year, you’re in luck. The Christmas decorating trends of 2024 are so fun! There are plenty of colors and styles that are so different from one another. You can have a super bright and colorful Christmas or something more moody and dark.
I made some buying guides for some of the most popular Christmas decorating trends to help you start your holiday decorating. Regardless of the style you choose, remember that you don’t have to buy everything! Money is tight for a lot of us, but Christmas decorating fomo is real! That doesn’t mean you should spend more than you can on decorations that will only be up for 6 weeks out of the year. Okay – I’m done being preachy – let’s go!
Candy Land Christmas
The latest trend that is taking over social media is Candy Land Christmas. It is a fun, bright, colorful display of candy canes and gingerbread men inspired by the classic children’s board game Candy Land.
To transform your home into the Kingdom of Sweets, focus on oversized decorations like giant lollipops, candy canes, gumdrops, and peppermint swirls. Use vibrant colors such as pink, red, green, and white with accents of glitter and sparkle for a festive feel. You can also incorporate faux sweets into garlands, wreaths, and Christmas tree ornaments and add striped ribbons, shimmering lights, and playful elements like gingerbread houses or characters to complete the look. This theme works well for creating a magical and fun holiday atmosphere for all ages.
Minimalist Beige Christmas
Love it or hate it, the minimalist beige Christmas lives on to see another year! This style is a subtle and elegant approach to holiday styling, focusing on simplicity and natural tones. Use a neutral palette of beige, ivory, and soft whites, paired with natural materials like wood, linen, and paper. You should look for understated ornaments such as matte or textured baubles, wooden stars, and dried florals like pampas grass or eucalyptus.
If you’d like to add some warmth to your minimalist beige Christmas decorations, you can do so with soft lighting from string lights or candles and incorporate cozy textiles like knitted throws or burlap accents. This style creates a calm and sophisticated holiday ambiance, perfect for those who appreciate clean and understated design.
Traditional Christmas
Traditional Christmas decorations evoke a sense of nostalgia and timeless holiday charm. They feature classic elements like red and green color schemes, gold accents, and lush greenery.
To get the look, you should include evergreen wreaths, garlands, and a Christmas tree adorned with glass ornaments, ribbons, and twinkling white or multicolored lights. You can add cozy touches such as stockings hung by the fireplace or Nutcrackers guarding your front door. I also like to incorporate plaid patterns, candles, and rustic wooden accents to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Gingerbread Man Decorations
If you like the idea of the Candy Land Christmas decorating trend, but aren’t into all of the colors, Gingerbread Man Christmas could be a good alternative. Gingerbread Man Christmas decorations bring a playful and cozy vibe to your holiday decor. Centered around the iconic gingerbread figure, this theme includes ornaments, garlands, and tabletop decor featuring gingerbread men, houses, and cookies.
Use a warm color palette of brown, white, and red, accented with candy-like details such as faux icing, gumdrops, and peppermint swirls. Incorporate gingerbread-inspired designs into wreaths, tree toppers, and baking-themed displays. Pair these with twinkling lights and rustic elements like burlap or wood for added charm. This theme is perfect for creating a sweet and cheerful holiday setting.
